Support Sophia Rescue Orphanage

I would like for you to know my dear friend Bob, in hopes that you could help me to help him in supporting our joint effort, the Sophia Rescue Orphanage.

Bob is a remarkable man who saves cats (& recently a few dogs that were going to be euthanized); he spends money that he barely has to take in stray cats, feral cats, cats just left in the woods and animals that people no longer want so they simply throw them out in the woods to fend for themselves. He takes them in, feeds them, he rehabilitates them, he tries tirelessly to find the cats homes & he tests his veterinarian’s generosity up to and beyond the breaking point regularly and without shame to get them proper care when they need it; that includes having females spayed and males neutered to prevent them from creating endless homeless cats.

Please help me to raise funds for Bob. Bob & I could never turn our back on them.

PLEASE CONSIDER PURCHASING THIS PHOTOGRAPHER'S BOOK

Animal Shelter PortaitsEvery week thousands of abandoned dogs and cats are picked up from city streets and put into shelters, where they wait for people to adopt them. Those lucky enough to find a home leave the kennels within a couple of days; those who do not are euthanized. In Animal Shelter Portraits, photographer Mark Ross turns an unflinching eye on the unfortunate animals stranded at kill shelters. Animal Shelter Portraits provides deeply compassionate and haunting portraits of our furred friends.

Purchase the Book at Amazon. Please also consider adopting a shelter animal.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to No Kill Advocacy Center, a national organization: www.nokilladvocacycenter.org.

From model legislation, to model policies, to ground-breaking studies, to support for activists, to advocacy, to conferences and seminars, to direct assistance, to legal action, the No Kill Advocacy Center is working to end the systematic killing of animals in U.S. shelters. The No Kill Advocacy Center works not only to save lives; but also to create a future where every animal will be respected and cherished, and where every individual life will be protected and revered.

Against Animal Testing

In this section, we would like to draw your attention to the cruel and wasteful practice of animal testing in the beauty and cosmetics industry.

Performance Art Was About Animal Cruelty Not Titillation

Jaquiline Lush Animal Cruelty Performance Art

“At 11.30 on Tuesday morning, Jacqueline Traide, a 24-year-old performance artist, was hauled on a leash into the window of Lush's Regent Street shop window. What followed was 10 hours – streamed live – of extreme endurance performance. Jacqui represented an animal test subject for the cosmetics industry. She endured a series of animal tests including forced-feeding, eye-irritancy tests and two (saline) injections but suffered no "actual" pain.”

THIS IS A VIDEO OF AN ANIMAL CRUELTY PERFOMANCE IN THE UK by LUSH COSMETICS - Please do your part by signing the petition at the end of the video to stop cosmetic companies from doing testing on animals for another 10 years -It was suppossed to have ended 20 years ago. Millions of animals are dying yearly for tests that that are not accurate and are useless. It is inhumane to use animals today when there are other ways of testing - it is atrocious & inexcusable and it should be a crime.

“Lush – as part of our Fighting Animal Testing campaign – allowed a performance artist to represent animal testing for the cosmetics industry in our shop window. The images were brutal, yet the representation is a fraction of the horror that occurs behind the closed doors of laboratories across the world. It was also a performance – at any moment Jacqui could communicate with us or walk out. Laboratory animals are bred for human use and end their life of abuse as an anonymous victim in a bin bag.” — Tamsin Omond, guardian.co.uk, Friday 27 April 2012

No-Kill Animal Shelters

A "No Kill" shelter is an animal shelter that does not euthanize animals who can be adopted or when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia for animals who are terminally ill or considered dangerous.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) estimated in November 2009 that approximately three to four million pets are killed yearly in shelters across the United States. No-kill shelters are trying to end this killing by increasing the demand for shelter dogs and cats and reducing the supply by reducing the number of animals born and thus the number of animals which end up in shelters, and through increased spay/neuter, including low-cost/free help for low-income people.

The no-kill concept received a legal boost in 1998 when the state of California passed three pieces of legislation directed to reduce animal suffering at shelters in California: the Vincent Law, which requires shelters to spay or neuter animals prior to adoption; the Hayden Law, which requires improved shelter accountability; and the Kopp Law, which prohibited the use of carbon monoxide to euthanize animals. No-Kill shelters received a financial boost with the establishment of Maddie's Fund in 1999, from which a number of communities in the United States have since received millions in financial grants. - Wikipedia
